A new definition of extremism has been unveiled by the UK government, with Communities Secretary Michael Gove naming five groups to be assessed against it. The new definition will apply to - but not criminalise - groups promoting an ideology based on "violence, hatred or intolerance". But some groups and MPs have criticised the move - saying it could risk free speech or lead to unfair treatment.
