India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party, the BJP, are exceptionally popular but with most of their support in India’s northern states the BJP barely has a presence in the south. Modi doesn’t need the south to win a majority. Nevertheless he is determined to change that, campaigning heavily in states like Tamil Nadu. But will it make a difference? India's 2024 general election is being held over six weeks between 19 April and 1 June and will be the biggest the world has ever seen.
