Its repeating alcoves, elevated walkways, and interconnected layers were built to accommodate thousands of occupants at once, functioning more like a human colony than a conventional facility. Movement throughout the structure was guided by shifting drafts of natural light, and over time certain patterns became recognized as indirect signals of activity elsewhere within the Assembly. Though the pathways remain open and the light continues to move across the walls as it always has, the occupants are gone. Yet on rare occasions, the structure still produces the same patterns once associated with incoming arrivals.
