I show you how to estimate the area bound by a function and the x-axis on a closed interval [a,b] using rectangles. Depending on whether you inscribe or circumscribe your rectangles you will find the upper sum (over estimate the area) or the lower sum (underestimate the area). The more rectangles used the better your estimate.
